Film with available light combine to be great partners to achieve the results I wanted. Shooting with available light only, I wanted to capture a sense of sobering reality. A somber tone. A strobe would have highlighted portions of the ship as well as the machine gun. Now you have just another shot of ship wreckage that looks like all the others. By using available light, the shot becomes a bit more monochromatic, showing subtleties such as some of the ship structure ghosting in the background, EXACTLY what I wanted. The gun in the foreground is only noticeable when you look directly at it. It is not lighted, which would immediately draw your eye to it.
